The main characteristic of the Angra Museum collection is its diversity. In this lies, in part, its great wealth. Notable are its collections of military history and transport from the 18th and 19th centuries, which allow it to be compared to other Portuguese museums; of painting, imaginary, ceramics and furniture, which place it in a privileged position among other regional museums; and of ethnography, which naturally make it representative of other forms of Terceira's culture.
It also has a large number of less recognized but no less important collections, such as collections of technical and scientific instruments, civil and religious garments, toys and musical instruments.
