The Azores never cease to amaze. Last December 16, the Azores were awarded with 1st place in the National Tourism Award promoted by BPI and Expresso, in the category of Sustainable Tourism. This award goes against the certification of the Azores as a sustainable tourism destination by EarthCheck.
The certification project of the Azores as a sustainable tourism destination by EarthCheck has contributed to leverage the name of the Azores as a competitive tourism destination. Furthermore, its objectives are aligned with the growing awareness of good management and resource practices among visitors, especially among the younger generations.
They had already been awarded the seal of sustainable tourism by EarthCheck in 2019, thus being the first archipelago in the world to receive such certification. This merit comes from the growing preservation of its natural heritage wealth.
