Profane festivities in the Azores in 2022

2022 marks the return of the religious festivities and the profane ones, due to the lifting of restrictions and easing of the pandemic situation in the Azores. So, come and get to know and participate in some of the biggest events in the Archipelago.

Flower Festival 2022 – Ribeira Grande – 12/5/2022

The Flower Festival 2022 will be held on May 12, in Ribeira Grande, and will end on May 15.

MEO Sound Route by Monte Verde Festival – Ribeira Grande – 27/5/2022

MEO Sound Route will be the first of four events marking the return of MEO Monte Verde Festival, scheduled for 2023. This first event is scheduled for 27 May and will feature the performances of Richie Campbell, MC Pedrinho, Bishop, João Moniz and TÓJÓ.

Azores Fringe Festival – Pico Island – 1/6/2022

The Azores Fringe Festival promotes art of all kinds and from all corners of the world, having already hosted artists from 64 countries. The festival is scheduled to start on June 1st 2022 and will end on June 30th of the same year.

Pico Zen 2022 – 8/6/2022

Pico Zen is a 5-day festival, where several activities are developed to generate unique experiences with the island’s nature. Among these, you can enjoy yoga, dance and other activities that provide relaxation and health.

RG Urban Sounds by MEO Monte Verde – 10/6/2022

RG Urban Sounds by MEO Monte Verde will be held on June 10, at Monte Verde Beach. In update.

Chicharro 2022 Festival – São Miguel – July 7, 2022

The Chicharro Festival 2022 will be held on July 7, 8 and 9. This year will mark the return of this festival after 2 cancellations due to the pandemic situation in 2020 and 2021. Taking place in the parish of Ribeira Quente, the festival will host a variety of musical, regional, cultural and local gastronomic entertainment.

Quinhentista Fair 2022 – São Miguel – 13/7/2022

The Quinhentista Fair is a thematic fair, representative of medieval times. This event originated from the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the elevation of Ribeira Grande to Village, in 1507. In this fair are exposed stalls marked by handicraft, gastronomy and entertainment.
In 2022, the Quinhentista Fair returns between July 13 and 17.

Party of the Emigrant in Lajes das Flores 2022 – 14/7/2022

The Emigrant Festival in Lajes das Flores 2022 will mark the 35th edition of the same, having been originally created in honor of all Florentines who left the island in search of better living conditions and visit their homeland during this festival.
The event will take place between July 14 and 18.

Santa Maria Blues 2022 – 14/7/2022

The Santa Maria Blues festival is one of the main highlights when it comes to Santa Maria’s profane festivities. Its main focus, as the name suggests, is the Jazz style of music. 2022 marks the 18th edition of the festival and will take place between July 14 and 16.

Cais de Agosto 2022 – 27/7/2022

Cais de Agosto is a festival with a variety of musical performances, featuring Gipsy Kings, The Code, Plutónio and Os Quatros e Meia, as headliners. This 2022 edition marks the return of the festival, after being canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic situation.

Feast days of Praia da Vitória 2022 – Terceira – July 29, 2022

The Festas da Praia da Vitória will return from July 29th to August 7th. This is the return of the Festas da Praia, after being cancelled in the years 2020 and 2021.

Faial da Terra Blues – São Miguel – 4/8/2022

Faial da Terra Blues is the first festival of its musical genre in the municipality of Povoação. It will take place between August 4th and 6th. In this festival you can experience the culture and gastronomy of the municipality.

Sea Week 2022 – Faial – 5/8/2022

With the slogan “We’re counting on you to party twice”, the Semana do Mar festival promises to avenge the years canceled due to the pandemic situation. The festival will take place from August 5 to 14 and will feature the performances of several artists.

Cais das Poças – Flores – 5/8/2022

Cais das Poças typically takes place on the first weekend of the month, and this year it will be held from August 5th to 8th. This year it will feature performances by Mickael Carreira, David Antunes, Edna Pimenta, Brumas da Terra, among others.

Folk Azores 2022 – Terceira – 14/8/2022

The Folk Azores 2022 festival will take place from August 14 to 21, in Terceira island. During this week, several music and dance performances are held, giving life and color to the streets of Terceira. This festival presents a huge diversity of different traditions, being a true cultural explosion.
