São Miguel, Azores, will host the 47th congress of the Portuguese Association of Travel Agencies and Tourism and will take place between December 8 and 11, 2022.
The congress will take place in Ponta Delgada and will be the 5th time it takes place in the Azores, having already hosted the event in 1995, 2006, 2013 and 2018.
In 1995, the congress was also held in Ponta Delgada, with the theme: “Tourism: Conquering the Political Dimension”. In 2006, it took place again in Ponta Delgada, on the theme: “Tourism: The Added Value of Distribution”. However, in 2013 the congress was held in Terceira Island, with the theme: “Tourism: New Directions, Another Attitude”. Finally, in 2018, it was held in Ponta Delgada, on the theme: “Tourism: The Challenges of Growth”.
The APAVT congresses are recognized by the sector as the main convention for tourism debate in the country, receiving hundreds of experts and professionals in the area annually, to discuss various topics concerning Portuguese Tourism. There has also been an increase in tourist flow in the country after these congresses.
The current president of APAVT announced on July 4th, at the Conceição Palace, that the 47th edition of the congress would take place on the island of São Miguel, highlighting the Azores as a tourist destination based on nature, authenticity and sustainability.
The president of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, took the opportunity to highlight the impact of the congress on the tourist flow, stating that it will allow to combat seasonality, since it will take place during the low season.
