Have you visited São Miguel’s main attractions? Are you looking for new adventures on the island? Read on and find out what to visit so that your next stay will be a totally different experience!
Salto do Cabrito Waterfall
The Salto do Cabrito Waterfall is a true hidden gem of São Miguel. At about 40 meters high and a natural pool at its bottom, you can not only delight yourself with the mere landscape, but also with a dip in its crystal clear waters. You can also choose to take a short trail (PRC29 SMI) that will provide you a more direct contact with the Azores nature.
Park of Ribeira dos Caldeirões
Located in the parish of Achada, in the Nordeste municipality, the Parque da Ribeira dos Caldeirões draws attention due to its quantity and variety of flora, its imposing waterfall and its historically important windmills, one of which is an ethnographic museum, where you can learn a lot more about how they work.
Ponta do Cintrão Viewpoint
Ponta do Cintrão Viewpoint provides a privileged view of the northern coast of the island. It is possible to visit the place through a trail (TM01), that will allow you, not only to appreciate the coastal landscapes, but also to visit and explore the parish of Ribeirinha, one of the oldest of the island.
Nossa Senhora da Paz Hermitage
Its long staircases give this building a very characteristic and unique appearance, with 10 levels and 100 steps, representing the Our Father of the Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries and the Hail Marys, respectively. From the top of the staircase, it is possible to obtain a panoramic view over Vila Franca do Campo (town), as well as the emblematic Islet of Vila Franca do Campo.
Salto do Prego Waterfall
Access to the waterfall can be made via two trails, the Sanguinho Trail (PRC09 SMI) or the Faial da Terra Stream (PRI11 SMI). Both are marked by the abundance and diversity of vegetation and require some skill, as they are of medium difficulty. This is mainly due to the characteristics of the ground, as it is often wet and slippery.
The Salto do Prego waterfall is small and forms a natural pool at its bottom, where you can swim. You could say that it is the cherry on top of the cake, serving as a “reward” after the completion of one of the trails.
