As of June 15, access to Fogo Lake will only be open to the shuttle and residents of São Miguel, and access by other private vehicles will be restricted. This regime will end in September.
The shuttle is free for residents and has a cost of 5€ for non-residents.
The route of the vehicle will be circular and will start at Caldeira Velha, Ribeira Grande, ending at Casa da Água, Lagoa, with the service being provided by the company Atlanticoenergy.
Parking at the Fogo Lake viewpoint will be free for the first 20 minutes and then charged after that period of time.
The route will have 14 kilometers and several stops along the way so that you can visit different points of interest, such as some trails, viewpoints, or even dive into Caldeira Velha. What’s more, your ticket can be used several times on the same day (hop-on hop-off system), between 9am and 7pm, giving you the opportunity to do part of the route on foot and return to the bus. The trip can also be done entirely on foot.
To start your trip, simply go to the buses on site and you can buy your ticket on the spot. However, it is recommended that you make a reservation at the online ticket office or through an agent near you.
Three stops are defined on the route: Bela Vista viewpoints; Lagoa do Fogo; and Pico da Barrosa.
The buses are properly equipped to accommodate passengers with reduced mobility and have first aid material (kits and automatic defibrillator), and their drivers are certified in basic life support.
