The Azores Archipelago was considered by European Best Destinations as one of the “Coronavirus Safest Destinations” to visit in Europe in 2020.
This distinction, along with the other destinations also considered safe to visit, was based on the choice of European Best Destinations for those countries that were less affected by COVID-19, therefore, the destinations that had fewer cases.
This distinction also took into account the security measures adopted by the tourism sector. In addition, these destinations have a higher bed rate per non-resident than the average of European countries and have greater proximity to hospitals, which gives a greater sense of security.
Having said that, it is important to mention that all safety measures must be adopted in the same way, such as the use of masks and social distance.
The Azores appear, in this list of safe destinations, as number 4, below Tbilisi (Georgia), Corfu (Greece) and Cavtat (Croatia).
