The World Travel Award is often referred to as the “Tourism Oscars” as it is tourism’s most prestigious awards ceremony. Held annually since 1993, it focuses on celebrating the best entities in each sector of tourism, travel, and hospitality, and is branded as a badge of excellence.
So it’s not surprising that the Azores have won their 3rd consecutive European Adventure Tourism Leader 2022 award, having competed for the prize with Austria, England, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, the Autonomous Region of Madeira, Mallorca, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, and Wales.
Every year the World Travel Awards holds a series of galas around the world to elect the best destinations and companies in each continent. Finally, at the last gala, the best destinations and companies worldwide are elected in several categories. The most recent gala was held in Mallorca, Spain, celebrating the European edition. The last gala of the year will be held on November 11, in Oman.
