The Azores archipelago has added another award to its collection. This time, they have received the “Tourism Oscars” from the World Travel Awards, the most prestigious awards ceremony in tourism.
This event has been held since 1993 and aims to celebrate the best entities in each sector of tourism, travel and hospitality, and its brand is a badge of excellence and a guide to finding and exploring the best tourist destinations in the world.
Having won the distinction of Europe’s Best Adventure Destination in 2022 (at the time, for the 3rd time in a row), the Azores have received this distinction once again, but this time at world level, winning the race against destinations such as Australia, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Fiji, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, the United States of America, Belize, Huesca La Magia (Spain), Mauritius, the Emirate of Recoima and Saint Lucia.
Thus, the Azores have established themselves as the benchmark destination for adventure tourism, and this is the result of a collective effort on the part of companies and professionals in the sector who, year after year, do an excellent job of promoting the best that the Azores have to offer.
It should also be noted that Portugal had a huge presence at the ceremony, with several regions of the country standing out and also receiving distinctions.
Last year, 2022, the award went to Costa Rica, having been won by Chile in the six years prior to that (2021-2016).
This year’s gala was held in Dubai, at the Burj Al Arab hotel (a landmark hotel in the country), on December 1st.
