Located in the parish of Rosais, the Seven Fountains Forest Park has a varied and extensive collection of common and endemic Macaronesian plant species. These same species are frequently relocated to different areas of the island to decorate leisure spaces.
Topo Islet
The Topo islet is located in the extreme southeast of São Jorge, that is, on the tip of the island opposite Ponta dos Rosais. It is characterized by its extremely flat terrain and a great diversity of nesting seabirds. The waters around the islet are often sought out for diving and observing marine species.
Pico das Caldeirinhas
With an altitude of 835 meters, Pico das Caldeirinhas provides a panoramic view of the island, as well as to other high altitude geological accidents, such as Pico das Brenhas. Depending on the season you choose to visit, it is possible to find, at Pico das Caldeirinhas, a seasonal lagoon, that is, a lagoon that fills up or dries out according to certain seasons of the year.
Almeida Ribeira Viewpoint
The Ribeira do Almeida Viewpoint provides a fantastic view over the town of Velas and its entire coastal area. From here you can see the neighboring islands – Pico and Faial – as well as a sunset over the horizon. Thus, we advise a visit in clear weather.
Fajã dos Cubres
Fajã dos Cubres is one of the most emblematic landscapes of São Jorge island. Here lies a lagoon – Lagoa dos Cubres – which is often used by fishermen to catch shrimp, which, in turn, is used for grouper fishing. There is also a great diversity of seabirds and migratory birds that take refuge here, making it an excellent place to observe them.
