The Regional Directorate for Culture, under the Regional Department for Education and Culture, holds a set of museum structures, spread along with the nine islands the Azores. Their complementary themes add to the idea of an identifiable cultural whole, in which the specificities of each island are enhanced. In sum, the are eight museums, some of which holding several branches, an Ecomuseum and a Contemporary Arts Center.
