The mission of the Regulatory Authority for Water and Waste Services in the Azores (ERSARA) is to regulate the water and waste sectors. It is responsible for carrying out regulatory and guiding functions in the sectors of public water supply for human consumption, urban wastewater and waste and, in addition, for monitoring and controlling the quality of water for human consumption.

In carrying out its regulatory mission, ERSARA aims to help ensure the social, economic, infrastructural and environmental sustainability of the activities in the sectors it regulates.
