Repository of a heritage of symbolic value, the Museum of Horta is formed by a heterogeneous set of collections, comprising a chronological period ranging from the sixteenth century to the present day: ethnography, objects and devices linked to ancient crafts and traditional agricultural, linen, wool and ceramic technologies; technological objects, related to the history of the Port of Horta, such as the submarine cable stations that operated in this North Atlantic communications neuralgic center between the 19th and 20th centuries; sacred art; plastic arts; photographic documents; printed and manuscript documents; natural history specimens.
In addition to the above-mentioned collection, we highlight the permanent fig tree core exhibition, a unique collection in the world that has been part of it since 1980, produced by a single author, Euclides Rosa.
