Caldeira da Graciosa
A 270m deep caldera located in the smallest volcano of the Azores. This place has different types of spaces, all marked by the strong presence and comfort of nature. Covered by vegetation, Caldeira da Graciosa is classified as a Natural Monument and is also the habitat of different species, including the only mammal endemic to the Azores, the Azores Bat. If you visit Caldeira da Graciosa, take the opportunity to visit Furna do Enxofre.
Furna do Enxofre
This curious cave resulting from volcanic activity is a true ex-libris of the Azores. With a perfect vaulted ceiling, the interior of the cave has different interesting formations, such as a cold water lake and a mud fumaroles. Access to the interior is through a tower with 183 steps.
Natural Pools and Carapacho Thermal Baths
In the Azores, a good summer day means beach. So, with this in mind, try diving into the natural pools of Carapacho, in Luz parish. If these are too cold for your taste, then enter the Termas do Carapacho and enjoy the thermal pool, with therapeutic benefits.
Pico Timão and Pico do Facho
Pico Timão and Pico do Facho, with 398 and 375 meters of altitude respectively, are idyllic places for walks. Both peaks are covered with vegetation, much of it endemic, consisting mainly of heather and beech. Pico Timão has a viewpoint from which you can see many fields of green crops, as well as the other islands of the Central Group (Terceira, Pico, São Jorge and Faial) on the horizon.
Mount of Nossa Senhora da Ajuda
The hill of “Nossa Senhora da Ajuda” is not only a stunning viewpoint overlooking the village of Santa Cruz in the northern part of the island, but also a place of enormous historical importance for the island of Graciosa, since it was from here that the village of Santa Cruz da Graciosa developed.
Ilhéu da Baleia and Ponta da Barca Lighthouse
Take the opportunity to visit the Ponta da Barca lighthouse, a building of great historical and architectural importance, with a privileged position for taking great pictures. From here you can also see the Ilhéu da Baleia, a rocky formation with a curious appearance, as it resembles a whale. These are visits not to be missed, especially if the weather allows it.
