Extended Weekends in 2023 – Find out when to visit the Azores

In 2023, Portugal will have 13 National Public holidays (including New Year’s), thus creating  five extended weekends, due to holidays occurring in the beginning or end of the week.
This Way, we have composed a list of the next 12 Portuguese National Public holidays of 2023, for your convenience. We will be highlighting the holidays that create extended weekends, perfect for an escapade in the Azores.
7th of April – Good Friday or God’s Friday (Friday)
  • Weekend -> 7th, 8th and 9th of April
9th of April – Easter
25th of April – Freedom Day
1st of May – Labour Day (Monday)
  • 29th and 30th of April and 1st of May
8th of June – Corpus Christi
10th of June – Portugal Day
15th of August – Assunção de Nossa Senhora (Assumption Day)
5th of October – Dia da Implantação da República (Republic Day)
1st of November – All Saints Day
1st of December – Restoration of Independence Day (Friday)
  • Weekend -> 1st, 2nd and 3rd of December
8th of December – Immaculate Conception Day (Friday)
  • Weekend -> 8th, 9th and 10th of December
25th of December – Christmas Day (Monday)
  • Weekend -> 23rd, 24th and 25th of December
Thus, with these 5 extended weekends, there is no shortage of opportunities to visit the Azores.
